Cheese accounts for over a third of Belarus' dairy export

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – Cheese accounts for more than a third of Belarus' export of dairy products, Belarus Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo said as he took part in the 25th international wholesale exhibition Prodexpo 2019, BelTA has learned.

“Cheese makers are the most export-oriented enterprises among dairy companies. In 2018, cheese accounted for 35.3% of the total export of dairy products. In January-August 2019 its share was 37.2%. Butter, whole milk products, and milk powder are among major export items as well,” Igor Brylo said.

In January-August 2019, Belarus exported over $1.5 billion worth of dairy products, which was up by 14% year-on-year. In 2018, Belarus' export of dairy products came at $2 billion, which accounted for 60% of the total dairy output and 39% of the total food export.

“We have been working hard to access new markets. In 2018 Belarus shipped dairy products to 58 countries as against 46 countries in 2017,” Igor Brylo noted. The top markets for Belarusian export of dairy products were Russia, Kazakhstan, and China.
