Call to build new multipolar model of global economy

MOSCOW, 28 April (BelTA) – Searching for new sources of economic growth and new strategic priorities necessitate building a new multipolar model of the global economy, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich said in a video address to the subregional dialogue of the 77th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) states see an increased dialogue between the EAEU and third countries, the integration associations and international organizations as one of the priorities for the development of Eurasian economic integration for the period up to 2025. "I believe that implementing the idea of the Great Eurasian Partnership, with the Eurasian Economic Union being one of its pillars, will contribute to the further construction of the renewed international architecture of mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the pandemic has caused unprecedented adverse impact, made it more difficult to solve other problems. To minimize the corona-crisis the EAEU governments jointly with the EAEU governing and executive bodies promptly took dramatic coordinated measures. This slowed down the rate at which the virus spread. Timely development of the highly effective vaccines by Russia, the organization of their supplies and the localization of production in the EAEU countries were of great importance and served as a positive example of integration cooperation in the interests of millions of people.

According to preliminary statistics, in 2020 the GDP of the Eurasian Economic Union decreased by 2.9%, which was less than the decline in global GDP. The EEC forecasts the economic growth at 3.3% in 2021 as demand picks up in the EAEU.

To overcome global challenges we need concerted action at both the national and international level, Mikhail Myasnikovich said. "Expanding the formats of cooperation and launching new dialogue platforms, including under the auspices of the UN, are important tools for identifying new sources of economic growth and ensuring sustainable development," he said.
