British delegation to visit Belarus to discuss cooperation in electric transport

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – A delegation of British companies and organizations involved in the development and assimilation of electric technologies in automotive industry will visit Belarus on 3-5 March, representatives of the Belarusian embassy in the UK told BelTA.

The delegation includes representatives of the UK Department for International Trade, the city of Nottingham, the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), the Center of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies (CENEX), and Coventry University.

The source noted the trade mission had been organized in association with the UK embassy in Minsk in continuation of the agreements reached when the UK minister of state for trade policy visited Belarus in June 2019. Back then the sides determined cooperation in the development and assimilation of electric technologies in mechanical engineering industry as a major avenue for advancing Belarus-UK trade and economic cooperation.

The British delegation is expected to visit the Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash. The implementation of the project to jointly assemble electric buses in Coventry will be discussed as well as the trial operation of a Belarusian electric bus in Nottingham. The delegation will be made familiar with the electric bus infrastructure in Minsk. The delegation will also visit the heavy truck manufacturer BelAZ, the car manufacturer BelGee, and the tractor manufacturer MTZ where opportunities for cooperation in assimilating British green technologies into the Belarusian mechanical engineering industry will be discussed.

While in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone the sides will discuss the organization of joint R&D work in the area of electric transport. Cooperation options for supporting joint projects will be discussed at premises of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, including export finance.

CENEX representatives are expected to meet with top executives of the Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft. The sides will discuss the participation of British companies in building electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Belarus.

The delegation will also participate in the conference Belarusian-British Season 2020. It has been organized by the UK embassy in association with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI).
