Belarusian Railways to present its transit services in Kaliningrad

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – A roundtable session “Transport and Logistics Potential of Belarusian Railways for Transporting Cargo to Kaliningrad Oblast” will be held in Kaliningrad on 29 November, BelTA has learned from the press center of Belarusian Railways.

The major goal of the event is to demonstrate Belarus' transit capacities in transporting Russian cargo bound for third countries and to inform market participants about Belarusian Railways' tariffs for the 2019 freight year.

The business program of the roundtable session includes discussion of cargo transportation and ways to increase cargo flows towards Kaliningrad Oblast. The participants of the session will also learn about services provided by the state-run company Belintertrans- Transport and Logistics Center of Belarusian Railways.

The event will be held with support of Kaliningrad Railways, a branch of Russian Railways. Taking part in it will be representatives of freight forwarders, ports, major cargo consignees and consignors. The delegation of Belarusian Railways will be led by company head Vladimir Morozov.

According to Belarusian Railways, in January-October 2018, the company transported 58.3 million tonnes of cargo to the Russian Federation, up 13.7% over the same period in 2017, of them 9.8 million tonnes (up 14.9%) were bound for Kaliningrad Oblast. “In order to attract additional cargo flows to Belarus, an efficient strategy to promote cargo transit is implemented. This includes, among other things, measures to improve the legal framework, upgrade of the rail infrastructure, a flexible tariff policy, introduction of new information technology,” Belarusian Railways said.
