Belarusian Railways reports 23.5% increase in container shipping in January

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The total amount of freight transported by Belarusian Railways in containers in January 2020 rose by 23.5% in comparison with January 2019 to a total of 63,500 containers in terms of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), BelTA has learned.

As many as 28,700 containers in TEU terms were transported between China and Europe via Belarus in the period, 107.8% as against January 2019.

Belarusian Railways secured positive dynamics in freight transportation in containers in 2019 as well. The total number of transported containers rose by 15% from 2018 and by nearly three times from 2015. The amount of containers transported between China and Europe via Belarus totaled 338,500 TEUs in 2019, or 102.1% as against 2018. As many as 3,118 container trains went through land border checkpoints of Belarusian Railways in this direction, 106.8% as against 2018.
