Belarusian public sector agricultural enterprises urged to increase output by at least 5%

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – The public sector of Belarus' agriculture has to increase its output by at least 5%, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats during a session of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry board.

Leonid Zayats said: “It is necessary to increase the output in the public sector of agriculture by at least 5%. The output of the animal husbandry industry has to grow by 4.2%, that of the crop farming industry by 8.3%. We focus primarily on milk, which gross output is supposed to rise by 320,000 tonnes. It is necessary to increase the production of beef, pork, and poultry meat by 83,000 tonnes. It will keep our processing enterprises busy.”

Speaking about concrete results of the processing industry, the official mentioned that 2022 saw 129,000 tonnes of butter made, 9,000 up from 2021. There are plans to increase butter output to 133,000 tonnes in 2023.

“Last year we also made 278,000 tonnes of cheese, 13,000 tonnes up from 2021. It is necessary to make 300,000 tonnes of cheese this year,” the deputy prime minister said.
