Belarusian merchandise export to Russia's Kirov Oblast on the rise

GOMEL, 5 June (BelTA) – In January-March Belarusian companies increased their merchandise export to Russia's Kirov Oblast by nearly one quarter in comparison with Q1 2019. Trade and other matters were discussed during the latest session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia's Kirov Oblast, BelTA has learned.

In January-March 2020 Belarus' trade with Russia's Kirov Oblast totaled $9.7 million, 95.7% as against the same period of last year. Export reached $2.9 million (123.9%), with import unable to exceed $7 million (87.2%). The main exports were machines, vehicles, and devices for lifting, transporting, loading or unloading, unalloyed steel wire, vegetables, ready-made knitted or textile goods, paints and varnishes based on synthetic polymers in non-aqueous media.

Some exports demonstrated considerable growth. For instance, the shipment of ready-made knitted or textile goods increased by $144,500 or by 132 times. Belarusian companies also sold more paints and varnishes based on synthetic polymers in non-aqueous media to Kirov Oblast as well as untreated furs.

This year Belarusian companies have started selling a number of products to Kirov Oblast such as machines, vehicles, and devices for lifting, transporting, loading or unloading, new types of tractors and truck tractors, vegetables. Gomelglass shipped the first few batches of unreinforced glass. Gomselmash's foundry subsidiary shipped a number of general metal goods. Mogilevliftmash resumed shipments of lifts. Meanwhile, shipments of frozen beef stopped.

Belarusian companies primarily imported ferrous metal structures from Kirov Oblast as well as insulated wire, cables, insecticides, herbicides, and tires.

The Council of Ministers has authorized the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee to oversee the advancement of Belarus' cooperation with Kirov Oblast. The session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia's Kirov Oblast was arranged as a videoconference. Representatives of the Gomel Oblast administration, the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom, the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom, the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry took part in it. Participants of the session discussed and determined ways of future implementation of documents on Belarus' cooperation with Kirov Oblast.
