Belarusian Energy Ministry unaware of suspension of Siemens equipment deliveries

MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – Siemens Company has not sent any official notification about the suspension of equipment deliveries as part of the project to build backup and peaking power plants in Belarus, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

A working meeting with Siemens representatives took place in the Energy Ministry on 27 April. Progress in implementing the project was discussed, including the schedule of equipment deliveries. Siemens technical specialists are now at the construction sites.

The project provides for building backup and peaking power plants based on gas turbine plants at four power plants of the Belarusian national energy company Belenergo. Those are the state district power plants in Bereza and Lukoml, a cogeneration plant in Novopolotsk and cogeneration plant No.5 in Minsk. Their total output capacity is 800MW. The facilities are scheduled for commissioning in 2022. Construction and installation work proceeds at all the sites.

In line with the contract the Belarusian side has made payments in advance for Siemens to manufacture the equipment against bank guarantees. Some of the equipment has already been delivered. The contracts provide for penalties if the company fails to honor its commitments.
