Belarusian Energy Ministry starts reforming energy industry administration system

OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 4 April (BelTA) – The reformation of the system used to manage organizations belonging to the Energy Ministry has begun in Belarus. The information was released by Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich at a field session of the Ecology, Nature Management, and Chernobyl Catastrophe Commission and the Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport and Communications Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 4 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the new state institution Gosenergogaznadzor was established on 1 April. All the necessary documents the organization's financing and operation require have been adopted. All the oversight functions will be performed by this institution. Apart from oversight over electricity it will perform oversight functions in the gas industry.

Suggestions have been made to hand over the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the Belarusian national electric company Belenergo, which will directly operate the nuclear power plant. The relevant presidential decree has been drafted and submitted for consideration of the Council of Ministers.

The possibility of setting up two holding companies – a gas one and an energy one – is under consideration. “We see that in the future it will allow improving the performance of specialized organizations in the civil engineering industry, which do work on energy installations and gas industry installations,” Viktor Karankevich explained.

Plans have been made to hand over a number of enterprises to municipal authorities as well as to the Industry Ministry and the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom.

The reform is supposed to be completed by 2021.
