Belarus working out new electric vehicles incentives

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) - Belarus is working out new electric car incentives, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, said as he commented on the 2021-2025 draft program for electric transport promotion, which was considered at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, BelTA learned.

"A whole stimulus package is in the works. For science it is the inclusion of R&D in state programs. The package will provide for procurement purchases, tax benefits and a number of other measures," Vladimir Gusakov said.

The government is also working out measures to dispose of electric cars and to develop a network of charging stations.

“Today only 1,600 electric vehicles are in use in Belarus. We expect this number to increase to tens of thousands in the coming years," the NASB head added. According to him, the country will draw on the experience of European states, including Norway, where the EV share in sales exceeds 50%.
