Belarus, Ukraine eager to maintain cooperation between regions

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Ukraine are intent on maintaining cooperation at the level of regions. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Belarus Igor Kizim made the statement during an online business meeting of representatives of companies of Belarus and Ukraine's Kherson Oblast, representatives of the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) told BelTA.

The diplomat noted that the event testifies to the success of the regional policy, which is being pursued in particular within the framework of preparations for the 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine. “Despite the falling general volume of mutual trade in January-April 2020 the trend towards tighter cooperation with Belarusian regions continues. I would also like to inform about additional opportunities for stepping up the presence of Ukrainian business in Belarus. I am talking about honorary consulates of Ukraine in Grodno and Vitebsk,” Igor Kizim added.

Director General of the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergei Nabeshko, President of the Kherson Chamber of Commerce and Industry Victoria Ostroumova, Counsellor for Trade and Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine Sergei Tomashov, and the representative of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ukraine Sergei Marusenko also took part in the online meeting.

During the meeting the Ukrainian side and the Belarusian one presented manufacturers of excavating machines based on MTZ tractors, electric welding equipment and railway maintenance vehicles, antiseptics and disinfectants, fruit and vegetable juices, companies that offer transportation and forwarding services, food wholesale traders, representatives of the IT industry.

Representatives of the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that despite external circumstances the chambers of commerce and industry of Belarus and Ukraine have been able to adjust and are now successfully mastering new forms of cooperation. The business interest in each other is a case in point – over 40 Belarusian and Ukrainian representatives took part in the online meeting.

The business meeting was organized by the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with the Kherson Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The practice of organization of such bilateral meetings involving Belarusian companies and foreign partners will continue. Similar online meetings with businessmen from Turkey and China will be arranged in July.
