Belarus to use South Korea's experience for smart industry development

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – South Korea's experience will help involve the business community of Belarus in the process of preparing and making decisions in the area of digital transformation of the real sector and formation of the domestic smart industry, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

The Economy Ministry hosted a video conference with representatives of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) on the launch of the third stage of project activities under the Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) 2021-2022 “Digital Transformation of Belarus' Economy: Implementation of Best Practices of Business and State Cooperation in Digital Transformation of the Industrial Sector”.

The project provides for studying the existing practice of interaction between the government and business in Belarus in the issues related to digital development of the national economy and the preparation of recommendations for its improvement taking into account the Korean experience. Korea's recommendations are supposed to help develop a mechanism to involve the business community of Belarus into the process of preparing and taking decisions for large-scale digital transformation of the real sector and formation of the domestic smart industry.

South Korea's representatives hailed the dynamics in the cooperation with the Economy Ministry on two previous KSP projects successfully implemented in 2018-2021.

Dmitry Krupsky, Head of the Economy and Innovation Activity Department of the Economy Ministry, made a speech on Belarus' behalf. He expressed the main idea of the new KSP project and the expectations of the Economy Ministry from the next stage of cooperation under the knowledge sharing program with the Republic of Korea. The emphasis was placed on involvement in the project of a wide range of stakeholders from among business associations and unions of real sector organizations, specialized and industry-specific state bodies and organizations, experts in digital economy and smart industry. Belarus plans to study in detail the existing forms, methods and examples of public-private interaction (partnership) in digital development of the industrial sector in the Republic of Korea.

The parties agreed on a schedule of KSP project activities for 2021-2022 and emphasized the need to select a professional team of researchers from the Korea Development Institute and high-level national experts from Belarus for the successful implementation of the project.

The meeting marked the start of new project activities between the Economy Ministry and the Korea Development Institute under the knowledge sharing program. According to the agreement on the schedule of events, the kick-off workshop of the KSP project for 2021-2022 is scheduled for November 2021.
