Belarus to sell 450,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers to Bangladesh

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Belarus will supply 450,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers to Bangladesh. A major one-year contract was signed in the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament on 8 July, BelTA has learned. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, plenipotentiary for cooperation with Bangladesh Mikhail Myasnikovich met with a delegation of the Agriculture Ministry of Bangladesh led by Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman and top officials of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

Director General of Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) Yelena Kudryavets and BADC Chairman Fazle Wahid Khondaker signed a memorandum and a contract on delivering Belarusian potassium chloride to Bangladesh in the next financial year.

According to Yelena Kudryavets, it will bolster cooperation and will increase trade turnover. Belarusian potash sells well in Bangladesh. Its share on the market of Bangladesh is prevailing, she noted.

In turn, Fazle Wahid Khondaker pointed out that the sides have been cooperating in deliveries of potash fertilizers for a long time. He said he was confident that cooperation between the BPC and the BADC will only grow stronger.

A delegation made of representatives of the BADC and the Agriculture Ministry of Bangladesh visited Belarus in September 2014. During that visit the BPC and the BADC signed a contract on delivering up to 120,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers. In 2018 the BPC's share on the potash market of Bangladesh exceeded 40%.
