Belarus to invest in dairy factory in Georgia

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – A dairy production facility with Belarus' participation will be set up in Georgia, Belarusian Ambassador to Georgia Mikhail Myatlikov told BelTA on the sidelines of the session of Belarus-Georgia intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation.

“Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas is expected to visit Georgia on 26-27 March. The economic forum of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be held during the visit. Plans are in place to open a dairy factory with Belarusian capital. It will use Belarusian raw materials and will be called Tbilisi Dairy Factory,” Mikhail Myatlikov said.

Besides, two shops selling Belarusian goods are expected to open in Georgia in March.

As for mutual trade Mikhail Myatlikov noted that the Belarusian exports to Georgia decreased as Gomselmash completed the delivery of harvesters. However, the exports of services increased to reach $28 million in 2019. “These are transportation, medical, tourism, educational and others services. They have been growing at a good pace,” the ambassador noted. “By 2019 the merchandise and services trade exceeded $120 million. We are moving towards the target of $200 million that the president has set forth.”

In 2019, the trade between Belarus and Georgia totaled $86.4 million, 0.6% down from 2018. The exports made up $50.8 million (21.4% down), the imports reached $35.6 million (59.9% up). Belarus' major exports to Georgia included synthetic thread, milk and dairy products, medications, electric transformers and other goods.
