Belarus' Taxes and Duties Ministry seeks to lower tax burden

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The Taxes and Duties Ministry will seek opportunities to further lower the tax burden, Belarus' Taxes and Duties Minister Sergei Nalivaiko told the media on the sidelines of the conference on the new wording of the Tax Code, BelTA has learned.

“We will look for new reserves to lower the tax burden. In our opinion, one of such reserves is abolishing individual privileges which do not contribute to the economic growth, and stimulating promising economic sectors. This is how we will be carefully treading together with colleagues and the business community,” Sergei Nalivaiko noted.

In his words, the list of taxpayers who are to lose privileges has not been defined yet. There will be no changes in the sectors where the privileges are effective, for example, the IT. “I think that the IT is the sector we should leave alone and let it develop in the stable environment,” the minister added.

Sergei Nalivaiko said that the new Tax Code which came into effect on 1 January outlines important principles of the stability of legislation and taxpayers' good faith. The emphasis is made on the in-house review and the possibility to give taxpayers a chance to correct their mistakes. According to the minister, this approach is justified. Nowadays, more than 96% of taxpayers fulfill their tax obligations in time.
