Belarus suggests milk processing project to Kyrgyzstan

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus has suggested implementing a joint project to set up a milk-processing enterprise to Kyrgyzstan, BelTA learned from Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, after the eighth session of the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Bishkek.

According to the source, the sides discussed mutual trade and the implementation of joint agribusiness projects. In particular, Kyrgyzstan may invest in setting up a processing enterprise. The enterprise will be located in Kyrgyzstan and will use Belarusian raw materials as well as the technologies the Belarusian side will design specifically for the project in order to make drinking milk, sour milk products (kefir, yoghurt, sour cream, quark cheese), and ice cream.

Aleksei Bogdanov said: “We've found two partners, who are ready to consider the project. Apart from that, the Kyrgyz Agriculture, Food Industry, and Amelioration Ministry confirmed its interest.” The official added that there are plans to sell products of this enterprise to China.

Summing up results of the meeting, Aleksei Bogdanov mentioned positive dynamics in Belarus' food export to Kyrgyzstan. In January-August 2018 the export rose by 28% to $19.7 million. At present Kyrgyzstan buys a large choice of Belarusian foods, including cattle meat, poultry meat, milk powder, butter, whey, cheese, and quark cheese.
