Belarus suggests canceling haulage permits within New Silk Road

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - Belarus suggests canceling permits for international freight transportation within the New Silk Road area, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said during the international videoconference held as part of the Belt and Road initiative, BelTA has learned.

“We need to abolish the haulage pass system. This will serve as an additional incentive to boost transport and logistics activities,” said Vladimir Makei.

According to Belarus, countries also need to develop digital transport corridors, especially between China and Europe.

“The introduction of modern satellite navigation seals helps avoid unnecessary customs and other procedures and reduce the delivery time by four to five days,” the minister said.

Vladimir Makei believes that the countries' infrastructure within the Belt and Road initiative should be more interconnected. “We need to further develop border stations, roads, railways, bridges and multimodal transport hubs. Connected infrastructure is a key to development through cooperation,” he added.
