ST PETERSBURG, 18 July (BelTA) – It is important that Belarus and Russia interact within the framework of the Belt and Road global initiative. The two countries need to step up efforts to build the China-Europe transport logistics, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a plenary session on the sidelines of the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 18 July, BelTA has learned.
“We cannot waste time. The new Silk Road is a global project. We see that many other countries have already undertaken real efforts to draw resources and commodity flows,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
The matter was discussed at the Council of the Republic, including with State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota. The Union State Standing Committee is ready to assume the coordinating function. Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested putting forward this proposal to the Supreme State Council of the Union State on behalf of the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.
According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, space research is another promising area of cooperation. The presidents of Belarus and Russia approved the development of a Russian-Belarusian new-generation high-resolution spacecraft for remote Earth sensing and a space system based on it. A sketch design has already been developed; technical specifications have been determined and the cost of works has been optimized. Mikhail Myasnikovich asked the Government of the Russian Federation to give an instruction to launch the next stage of the project - detail design and financing.
