Belarus, Russia to sign roadmap for machine tool industry

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia will soon sign a roadmap to develop the machine tool industry, Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister Aleksandr Efimov said at a press conference to mark the Machine Tool Industry Day, BelTA has learned.

Since last year, the Industry Ministry together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has been actively developing the machine tool industry, which is facilitated by an extensive program of investment projects. "A new investment cycle has been launched and about 65 investment projects are currently underway in the Industry Ministry, not taking into account the regular modernization programs that are carried out every day, every month by our enterprises," Aleksandr Efimov noted.

"There is a great demand for processing equipment of all types. This industry is actively picking up steam. This is facilitated by a number of intergovernmental agreements signed between Belarus and the Russian Federation. The key ones are an agreement on the common industrial policy, an agreement on mutual recognition of technological operations and an intergovernmental agreement on the joint development of the machine tool industry," the deputy minister said.

According to him, in the very near future, a roadmap to the relevant intergovernmental agreement will be signed between the Industry Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. The document provides for the creation of favorable conditions to facilitate direct ties and cooperation in terms of joint projects between manufacturers of machine tool products of the two countries, to set up joint production of machine tool products and draw up proposals for the development of measures of state support for manufacturers of machine tool products of the Union State. The roadmap also includes the Union State Machine Tool project aimed at creating a machine from components produced in the Union State.

"Realizing that economic security is based on technological sovereignty, the development of the machine tool industry will be given the closest attention. All the measures taken are already yielding good results," Aleksandr Efimov emphasized.
