Belarus-Russia regional dialogue seen as key to successful development, stability

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - Dialogue between Belarusian and Russian regions is a key to successful development and stability, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko said at a joint session of the Belarusian and Russian organizing committees for the 8th Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions on 8 June, BelTA has learned.

According to vice speaker of the Council of the Republic, the forum of regions has not only become a platform for building economic ties but also proved to be a mechanism of public diplomacy between the two brotherly countries.

“Today, together with our Russian counterparts, we have detailed our approaches to the forum of regions. Traditionally, all the events will be aimed at developing and deepening bilateral relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation,” Anatoly Isachenko stressed.

The 8th edition of the Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions will be held under the theme “Scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the era of digitalization”. The forum will take place from 29 June to 1 July. The key events will be held in Moscow and Moscow Oblast (Moscow Oblast Government House), and also as a videoconference in Minsk.

According to the vice speaker, the Forum of Regions will be held in a hybrid format. On the opening day, 29 June, the forum will be held online and will include five sectional meetings.

On 30 June, a Belarusian delegation will fly to Moscow where Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko are set to meet with heads of regional authorities of Russia and Belarus. A meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission is also scheduled for 30 June.

The key event, a plenary session with the participation of the presidents of the two countries, will take place on 1 July.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic's Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Viktor Liskovich spoke about a meeting which is to be held at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies. “First of all, the meeting will highlight implementation of the concept of digital transformation in the system of education, consider problems and prospects of scientific, technological and innovative cooperation between the two countries, promising areas of scientific and expert interaction on the key issues of Russian-Belarusian cooperation, digitalization and personalization as the basis of modern healthcare, consolidation of digital competencies of Belarusian and Russian regions to implement smart city technology, inter-university cooperation on development and promotion of the smart city technology. We believe that discussion of these issues will be useful for the development of relations between our two countries,” he said.

According to Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic's Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance Viktor Ananich, a session is scheduled to take place at the BNTU Technology Park Polytechnic. Among the participants of the section are representatives of the Communications and Informatization Ministry, higher educational institutions, technoparks, banks, the Youth Parliament, mobile network operators, and others. “The speakers will consider such topics as the common scientific and technological space of the Union State in the era of digitalization, the experience of international cooperation with regard to the development of infrastructure, support, development of smart industry in Belarus, and also promising areas in the IT sector,” he said.
