Belarus, Russia continue to negotiate gas price for Belarus

MOGILEV, 25 April (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia continue to negotiate the gas price Belarus will pay as from 2020, Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told BelTA.

“The negotiations have been held since May 2017, including at the level of appropriate ministries. Our proposals have been repeatedly sent to Russia for consideration. The Energy Ministry has recently prepared another draft of the protocol amending the price agreement of 2011. On 10 April it was officially sent through diplomatic channels to the Russian Energy Ministry. Tomorrow, on 26 April, the deputy ministers are scheduled to meet in the Energy Ministry of the Russian Federation to discuss this issue among other things. Next week I am set to meet with Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak,” Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said.

The governments of the two countries will be reported on the outcome of the talks. “This is a complicated issue. Belarus' proposals offer a roadmap to gradually create equal conditions for economic entities of Belarus and Russia by 1 January 2025,” Viktor Karankevich noted.

The price for the Russian gas for Belarus stands at $127 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2019.

According to earlier agreements, the parties must agree on the gas price for Belarus for 2020-2024 by 1 July 2019.
