Belarus reveals its main export markets for crop products in January-September

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – In January-September 2020, Ukraine was Belarus' main export market for potatoes and Russia – for vegetables, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

In January-September 2020, Belarus' export of crop products totaled $363.8 million. Vegetables accounted for 44.5% of the total export, potatoes for 7.7%, fruit and berries for about 7%, and flax fiber for 3.6%.

Belarus shipped crop products to 39 countries in January-September 2020. The CIS and the EU member states (Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and France) accounted for the largest share of exports.

Belarus exported 248,600 tonnes of fresh vegetables worth $161.7 million. Vegetables were shipped to 29 countries, with Russia accounting for 78.5% of total export ($126.9 million), Germany for 6.3% ($10.1 million), Lithuania for 4.9% ($7.9 million), and Poland – 3.8% ($6.2 million).

In January-September 2020, Belarus supplied 185,200 tonnes of potatoes worth $27.9 million abroad. Its export markets for potatoes included eight countries, with Ukraine (144,600 tonnes), Russia (29,200 tonnes), and Moldova (10,100 tonnes) being the biggest customers.

Export of flax fiber came at $13.2 million (13,200 tonnes) in January-September 2020. The top three export markets for flax fiber were China (over 4,300 tonnes, or $4.6 million), Russia (3,300 tonnes, or $2.3 million), and Lithuania (2,600 tonnes, or $2.7 million).

Belarus delivered 54,100 tonnes of fruit and berries worth $25.4 million to eight countries: Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Germany. Russia accounted for 91% of the total export of fruit and berries, Ukraine for 5.8%, and Lithuania for 2.3%.

All in all, in January-September 2020, Belarus exported more than $4.2 billion worth of agricultural and food products, 106.1% as against the same period of 2019.
