MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – The Finance Ministry has explained how Belarus' commitments concerning eurobonds are honored, BelTA learned from the ministry's website.
On 28 February 2023 Belarus redeemed the eurobond issue Belarus 2023 to the equivalent of $800 million and paid out an interest yield on the eurobond issue Belarus 2023 to the equivalent of $27.5 million and on the eurobond issue Belarus 2030 to the equivalent of $18.6 million.
The full amount of money was transferred to a dedicated bank account in OAO ASB Belarusbank in line with the government's and the central bank's resolution No.212/10 of 6 April 2022. The resolution introduced temporary measures for honoring external state debt commitments.
Eurobond holders can get payments from this account upon producing the relevant application and after passing the verification procedure the government's and the central bank's resolution No.643/20 of 26 September 2022 stipulates.
The Finance Ministry reminded that Belarus has to honor commitments on eurobonds in this manner due to the sanctions that have been enforced against the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus as the fiscal agent of the Belarusian government and due to the persistent inability of the Western infrastructure to transfer the payments to all the eurobond holders.
