MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus receives about $130 million worth of technical and economic aid from China every year, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov on 30 June.
The official said: “Today we bear witness to the diplomatic genius of our president, his sincerity and ability to make friends. China's technical and economic aid is not a simple economic substance. Over the course of eight years prior to 2015 we received about $130 million in technical and economic aid from China. Since 2015 after a meeting of our leaders we've been receiving $130 million in technical and economic aid every year.”
The money is used to build welfare housing, halls of residence, the infrastructure of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. “The aid will now be used to build two impressive Olympic-level sport facilities. It is a personal arrangement secured by the president, his personal project for all intents and purposes,” the first deputy prime minister said.
“If we talk about China's technical and economic aid that has been spent and realized into specific projects so far, we are talking about more than $0.5 billion. Taking into account future projects the sum will reach $800 million in 3-4 years. This is purely technical and economic aid. There are also investments, the trade and economic sphere, public and political aspects,” Nikolai Snopkov added.
Asked about new Chinese loans for Belarus, the official said: “It is a constant process of interaction with Chinese financial institutions. It is rather versatile and it is too early to talk about concrete terms. Let me repeat that, it is a constant process.”
