Belarus ready to set up joint ventures in farming with Ukraine

ZHITOMIR, 4 October (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to set up joint agricultural companies with Ukrainian partners, Belarus' Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Khotko told the media on 4 October, BelTA has learned.

The minister stated that he got acquainted with his Ukrainian counterpart supervising the farming sector. “We have compiled an action plan for future cooperation. Our veterinary services have discussed veterinary certificates. Our bilateral relations have been steadily developing. I think that the meeting of the two heads of state will add an impetus to our further cooperation,” the minister said.

In his words, Belarus is ready to continue farming supplies which are in demand in Ukraine and also set up joint agricultural companies with Ukrainian partners.

For example, due to a poor potato harvest in Ukraine this year the country is actively buying this product from Belarus. “When we crossing the border [on the way to Zhitomir], we saw Belarusian trucks full of potatoes, vegetables. The issue of potato delivery to Ukraine is relevant today,” Anatoly Khotko said.

In his words, in January-July 2019 Belarus exported $80 million worth of food and agricultural produce to Ukraine, up 19% year on year. The total trade with Ukraine in the sector reached $500 million, up 9%, in the first seven months of 2019.
