Belarus prime minister off to UK on working visit

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas is off to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on a working visit, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rumas is scheduled to take part in Belarus Capital Markets Day which will be held at the London Stock Exchange on 10 June. The event primarily targets investors in debt securities with fixed yield and portfolio investors. The event involves several thematic clusters, presentation of the Belarus ICT sector which draws attention of investors.

Sergei Rumas is set to hold talks with the leadership of the London Stock Exchange, the world's largest investment banks and funds.

On 11 June Sergei Rumas is to hold a series of meetings, including with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Foreign Office and the Department for International Trade of the UK.

The United Kingdom is one of the main trading partners of Belarus. Over the past few years it has consistently ranked third largest partner of Belarus in terms of export. In January-April 2019 the bilateral trade amounted to more than $1 billion. Belarus had a surplus of $843.3 million. The United Kingdom ranks second in terms of foreign direct investment in the Belarusian economy (31.7%). With regard to the role of London as a global financial center Belarus sees great potential for the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of banking and finance.
