Belarus may join one of BIE steering committees

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Belarus may become a member of one of the steering committees of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), BIE Deputy Secretary General Dimitri Kerkentzes said as he met with Belarus' First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko in Dubai, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Dimitri Kerkentzes praised the level of Belarus-BIE cooperation and expressed hope that Belarus will join one of the BIE steering committees in the near future,” the press service noted.

Andrei Yevdochenko is leading a Belarusian delegation which is taking part in a meeting of international participants of Expo 2020 Dubai from 19 to 20 October.

During the visit to the United Arab Emirates, Andrei Yevdochenko met with Reem Al-Hashimi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation. The sides touched upon the preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai and ways to ensure Belarus' most effective participation in the event. Reem Al-Hashimi commended Belarus' preparations for the 2020 World Expo and underlined that Belarus is one of the most active states cooperating with the UAE on participation in the upcoming event.

The Belarusian delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives of Argentina, Russia, the USA, France, and Japan, which seek to host World Expos in the future.
