Belarus-Lithuania agreement on nuclear safety information exchange might be signed soon

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Belarus has approached signing the agreement on nuclear safety information exchange with the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate of Lithuania (VATESI), Olga Lugovskaya, Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), said during a video press briefing hosted by BelTA's press center on 11 May.

“We have finally approached the conclusion of the agreement with Lithuania; we sent them the draft agreement that will be signed by the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and VATESI,” Olga Lugovskaya said.

In her words, Gosatomnadzor maintains close contacts with Lithuania's State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate; the parties also interact at international platforms, including the IAEA.

“We are ready to keep working [with VATESI] on technical matters. Naturally, safety should be at the heart of it all. We are ready for all kinds of cooperation with our counterparts,” she added.
