Belarus interested in new joint projects with Bangladesh

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Belarus is pleased with the current state of affairs in the relations with Bangladesh and is interested in new joint projects. The statement was made at the meeting of Mikhail Myasnikovich, chairman of the Council of the Republic, supervisor of cooperation with Bangladesh, with the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh led by Secretary Md. Nasiruzzaman, BelTA informs.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, Belarus hopes for new interesting projects and ideas which will help bolster bilateral cooperation.

In particular, the meeting focused on the export of Belarusian potash fertilizers to Bangladesh. “Issues concerning investment goods such as farming and road construction equipment are addressed rather successfully,” Mikhail Myasniklovich said. He added that Belarus is interested not only in the development of trade but also in new joint ventures. Besides, Belarus is ready to share its technologies and innovations.

Belarus, for its part, buys a wide range of products in Banglash, including products for the carpet industry, textiles and leather goods. Mikhail Myasnikovich praised their quality, popularity on the market and expressed interest in bigger deliveries.

Speaking about the level of bilateral relations in general, the speaker said that Belarus has always supported Bangladesh, including on the international arena. Md. Nasiruzzaman, in turn, thanked for such a friendly position of the Belarusian side.

During the talks the sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning the development of Belarus-Bangladesh cooperation, including in the agricultural industry. “This is not only the topic of fertilizers but also of farming equipment. The talks on a new contract are in progress,” Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters. Md. Nasiruzzaman added that the participants of the meeting also discussed cooperation in seed farming, education, personnel training.

In 2018, the Belarus-Bangladesh bilateral trade went up 18%. Major exports of Belarus are equipment and potash fertilizers. On 8 July, Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) signed a memorandum and a contract on the delivery of Belarusian potassium chloride (450,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers) in the next financial year. While mulling over the terms of the contact, the sides discussed other promising avenues for cooperation. BPC and BADC have a solid foundation for partnership because the two companies are state-owned and represent the interests of their countries. It facilitates joint work at a strategic level.
