Belarus interested in closer Eurasian economic integration in agriculture

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) - Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Subbotin and Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko met with Member of the Board (Minister) for Industry and Agribusiness of the Eurasian Economic Commission Artak Kamalyan, BelTA learned from the Telegram-channel of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

"Belarus is interested in the development of Eurasian economic integration in such areas as forecasting, state support for agriculture, food security of the EAEU, circulation of warehouse certificates, manufacture of organic products, uniform rules of circulation of crop and livestock products," the press service said.

The parties discussed the draft agreement on the rules of issue and circulation of warehouse certificates for agricultural products in the EAEU, and strategies for the development of the sugar market of the EAEU member states. Ways to ensure food security for the Union countries were also discussed.

Belarus' trade in agricultural products and food with the EAEU member states amounted to $6.1 billion in 2020 and reached $1.5 billion in January-March 2021. Belarusian food exports to the Eurasian Economic Union amounted to $1.2 billion in Q1 2021. Imports were mainly tea, coffee, confectionery, vegetable oil, vegetables and melons, fish and fish products.
