Belarus, IMF continue negotiations on rapid financing

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) continue talks on rapid financing, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) Pavel Kallaur said at a briefing on 13 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is currently in negotiations with the IMF personnel. They are estimating the current situation in Belarus. We are comparing our forecasts. This is a usual practice,” Pavel Kallaur said.

In his words, it is early to forecast the results of the talks. As BelTA reported earlier, the Belarusian government and the country's National Bank addressed the IMF with an application for rapid financing due to the deterioration of the global economic situation. Depending on the terms of access to the IMF's Rapid Financing Instrument, Belarus may claim the equivalent of roughly $900 million.
