Belarus-Hungary trade up 30% in 2018

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Hungary have been steadily developing economic cooperation. The mutual trade soared 30% in 2018, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Belarus Zsolt Csutora told a press conference in the Minsk Town Hall on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

“We have very good economic relations. Mutual trade is on the rise. This year the increase in bilateral trade will make up 30% year-on-year. I would also like to see our relations develop in other areas, especially culture and tourism,” said Zsolt Csutora. He added that the Hungarian prime minister is expected to visit Belarus in early 2019.

As for the economic cooperation prospects, the ambassador said that the two countries have been developing interaction between pharmaceutical companies and are negotiating the joint Belarus-Hungary production of medicines.

There is interest in cooperation in construction, IT, agricultural production. Hungarian companies are ready to invest in the processing industry of Belarus, particularly the meat industry.

According to the Ambassador, Hungary also aims to increase the supply of canned products to Belarus. “We would like to introduce your customers to foie gras, which is a popular product in Hungary, bring famous Hungarian wine and to open a Hungarian restaurant here. Therefore we are waiting for partners, counteroffers from Belarusian business,” Zsolt Csutora noted.
