Belarus hosts national statistical system assessment mission

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus' National Statistics Committee is hosting the first mission of Global Assessment of the National Statistical System, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee.

The organizer is the statistical office of the European Union. The experts of this office, and also the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the European Free Trade Association and independent experts will stay in Belarus till 21 June to examine the structure and organization of the national statistical system.

The experts will undertake an in-depth review of the statistical laws, observance of the fundamental principles of official statistics and the European statistics code. The mission will take into account the implementation of the quality management system, the use of human, financial and IT resources. Experts will pay attention to production processes, dissemination of statistical information, communication with key users, staff development, and international cooperation and will undertake an in-depth review of multi-sectoral statistics and statistics across certain areas: business, agriculture, macroeconomic and socio-demographic statistics.

International experts will meet with other producers of official statistics, users of official statistical information, representatives of the scientific and academic community, media, international organizations in Belarus.

A detailed report and recommendations on priority areas of development of the national statistical system will be prepared following the global assessment.

Previous adapted global assessments were conducted in Belarus in October 2012 and March 2013.
