Belarus' first vice premier sees no reason to revise GDP growth for 2019

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – There is no reason to revise Belarus' GDP growth projected at 4% in 2019, Belarus First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

In January-April 2019, Belarus' GDP grew 1.4% as against the same period a year ago. “There is no reason to revise the country's GDP forecast. I think that many issues will be settled in the near future. We will give a boost to some exports according to the president's instructions,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

As for social issues, the government will focus on the organizations with the lowest salaries. “All the instructions have been given. We will check on the implementation of all of them. The first stage will include the companies with the salaries lower than Br400. There should be no such companies by 1 July. The main ways to address the issue is to enhance the effectiveness of such companies or take some managerial decisions. Each of those companies has an owner. If you see that the company cannot operate efficiently, take a managerial decision: merge, sell or shut it down. The personnel of such companies should be provided with jobs if the decision is to close the company. Such low salaries are inadmissible. The next stage (1 January 2020) will focus on the companies with the salaries lower than Br500,” the first vice premier said.
