Belarus' export up by 0.5% to $3.08bn in January 2019

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – In January 2019 Belarus' export of merchandise and services inched up by 0.5% over January 2018 to total $3.08 billion, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

Belarus' trade in merchandise and services exceeded $5.8 billion, which was down by 2.7% from January 2018. Export amounted to $3.08 billion (up by 0.5%), with import down by 6.1% to $2.76 billion. The surplus of the foreign trade in merchandise and services amounted to $322.3 million ($128.1 million in January 2018).

Merchandise trade shrank by 4% to $4.85 billion. Merchandise export went down by 2.1% to $2.42 billion and import by 5.9% to $2.43 billion. The deficit of merchandise trade reached $6.8 million ($105.4 million in January 2018).

In January 2019 trade in services exceeded $1 billion, up by 4.3% year on year. Export of services reached $665.2 million (up by 11.5%), with import at $336.1 million (down 7.4%). Belarus had a surplus of foreign trade in services in the amount of $329.1 million ($233.5 million in January 2018).
