Belarus' export shrinks by 11.3% in Q1 2020

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – In January-March 2020, Belarus' export of merchandise and services shrank by 11.3% year-on-year to $8.665 billion, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In January-March, Belarus' foreign trade totaled $16.833 billion, down by 11.7% year-on-year. Import came at $8.167 billion (down by 12.1%). Surplus of foreign trade in goods and services equaled $498 million in January-March 2020 ($481.8 million in Q1 2019)

Belarus' merchandise trade went down by 14.7% to $13.461 billion. Merchandise export plummeted by 15.8% to $6.459 billion, with merchandise import down by 13.7% to $7.002 billion. Deficit totaled $543.1 million (the deficit was $439 million in Q1 2019).

Foreign trade in services rose by 3% year-on-year and reached $3.371 billion. Export of services amounted to $2.206 billion (up by 5.2%), with import at $1.165 billion (up 0.9%). Surplus of foreign trade in services equaled $1,041 billion, from $920.8 million in January-March 2019.
