Belarus' export 4.2% down to $17.3bn in January-May

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – In January-May 2022 Belarus' export of merchandise and services dropped by 4.2% year-on-year to $17.371 billion, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In January-May 2022 Belarus' foreign trade totaled $33.009 billion, 5.5% down from the same period in 2021. Import amounted to $15.638 billion (6.9% down). Surplus of foreign trade in goods and services equaled $1.732 billion, up from $1.346 billion in January-May 2021.

Belarus' merchandise trade shrank by 4.1% to $27.687 billion. Merchandise export went down by 3.3% to $13.757 billion, with merchandise import down by 4.8% to $13.930 billion. Deficit totaled $172.3 million. In January-May 2021 Belarus had a deficit of $394.8 million.

In January-May 2022 foreign trade in services reached $5.321 billion, 9.5% down year-on-year. Export of services amounted to $3.613 billion (7.5% down), with import at $1.708 billion (21.1% down). Surplus of foreign trade in services equaled $1.904 billion, up from $1.741 billion in January-May 2021.
