MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – In January-May 2020 Belarus' export of merchandise and services dropped by 17.4% in comparison with the same period of last year to $13.6 billion, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee website.
Foreign trade amounted to $26.5 billion in January-May 2020, 19.2% down from January-May 2019. Belarus' import amounted to $12.9 billion, 21% down. The surplus of the foreign trade in merchandise and services amounted to $682.6 million, up from $114.4 million in January-May 2019.
Foreign merchandise trade dropped by 21.9% to $21.3 billion. Merchandise export shrank by 21.2% to $10.2 billion while import went down by 22.4% to $11 billion. Deficit of merchandise trade amounted to $882.3 million, down from $1.3 billion in January-May 2019.
Foreign trade in services dropped by 6.4% to nearly $5.2 billion. Export of services shrank by 3.5% to $3.4 billion while import went down by 11.3% to $1.8 billion. The surplus of the foreign trade in services amounted to $1.6 billion, up from $1.4 billion in January-May 2019.
