Belarus' export 16.9% down in H1 2020

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – In H1 2020 Belarus' export of merchandise and services dropped by 16.9% year-on-year to $16.6 billion, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In January-June 2020 the trade in goods and services exceeded $32.4 billion, 18.3% down from the same period a year ago. Import totaled $15.8 billion (19.6% down). Surplus of foreign trade surplus in goods and services equaled $757.3 million (trade surplus in January-June 2019 - $269.2 million).

Belarus' merchandise trade dropped by 20.3% to more than $26.1 billion. Merchandise export went down by 20.2% to almost $12.5 billion, with merchandise import down by 20.4% to $13.6 billion. Deficit totaled $1.1 billion. In January-June 2019 Belarus also had a deficit of more than $1.4 billion.

Foreign trade in services reached $6.3 billion, 8.7% down year-on-year. Export of services amounted to $4.1 billion (5.1% down), with import at $2.2 billion (14.7% down). Surplus of foreign trade in services equaled $1.9 billion, up from more than $1.7 billion in January-June 2019.
