Belarus expects faster progress of BelAZ engine assembly project in Russia's Sverdlovsk Oblast

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus expects the BelAZ haul truck engine assembly project to pick up the pace. Plans have been made to assemble engines together with the company Sinara – Transport Machines in Sverdlovsk Oblast. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Belarusian automobile engineering company OAO BelAZ, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the relevant statement as he met with Chairwoman of the Sverdlovsk Oblast Legislative Assembly Lyudmila Babushkina on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the enterprise will assemble engines with the output of 2,300-2,500 horse powers. Initial documents have been signed already. Belarus expects the project to pick up the pace. According to the head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, the project could become a reliable long-term program.

On the whole, Mikhail Myasnikovich spoke in favor of stronger manufacturing cooperation with Sverdlovsk Oblast. He suggested focusing on two or three investment projects in the sphere of mechanical engineering.

The advancement of scientific and technical cooperation was discussed during the meeting. The sides agreed that taking part in the implementation of joint projects will be particularly important for young people. “Today we are extremely interested in developing the production of science-intensive, innovative products,” Lyudmila Babushkina noted. The Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences carries out promising R&D projects. Universities of the Russian region are interested in bolstering contacts with Belarusian colleagues and are ready to step up student exchange programs. Summing up the discussion, Lyudmila Babushkina said she was confident that the current visit of the Sverdlovsk Oblast delegation to Belarus will give a new impulse to trade and economic relations, humanitarian contacts.
