Belarus' energy minister opines on prospects for single gas price in EAEU

MOSCOW, 24 May (BelTA) - The Eurasian Economic Commission has been working on the formation of the common electricity and natural gas markets, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media when asked about whether the Eurasian Economic Union will come to a single gas price in the near future, BelTA has learned.

"Now work is underway to draft the necessary documents for the unified markets. The main goal is to equalize and converge price terms in these markets. The Eurasian Economic Commission has been working on the common markets for electricity and natural gas," the minister said.

Meeting the domestic demand with affordable energy resources is one of the pillars of energy security, Viktor Karankevich stressed. The second pillar is technological sovereignty to ensure the production of goods, equipment, components, spare parts necessary both for the reliable maintenance of the power generation equipment and for the construction of new facilities.

"The global energy crisis, sanctions and restrictions are encouraging us to adopt additional measures and to develop solutions for improving the energy security. Today the energy ministers of the EAEU countries discussed energy security, achievements and results, and the current problems. Proposals were voiced on how to solve them in the near future and in the medium term," the minister said.

Viktor Karankevich together with other representatives of the Belarusian government attended the 2nd Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow.
