Belarus' draft development program to be submitted to Council of Ministers by 1 August

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The draft program of Belarus' social and economic development in 2016-2020 is expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers by 1 August 2016, Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Zaborovsky told reporters on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

He noted that the work on the draft program is nearing completion. “We expect that the document will be submitted to the government by 1 August. The main thing is that it will be very specific,” Alexander Zaborovsky stressed. The document will further develop the strategic guidelines for social and economic development that were discussed at the fifth Belarusian People's Congress.

The First Deputy Economy Minister said that all the comments and suggestions put forward by the delegates are being thoroughly considered. The Economic Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy is working in close cooperation with the editorial board of the Belarusian People's Congress to turn the program into a kind of a roadmap for social and economic development with specific goals. “We expect that many of the suggested initiatives will be implemented in 2016 or in early 2017, so that next year we could attain the economic growth targets indicated in the program,” Alexander Zaborovsky said.

On 1 July, the Economic Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy hosted a roundtable conference that discussed current matters of Belarus' social and economic development. Partaking in the event were academics, businessmen and local government authorities. Alexander Zaborovsky believes that the open dialogue will help finalize the program for the country's development in 2016-2020.
