Belarus' customs service steps up work on border with Ukraine

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian customs service is taking all possible measures to clear trucks at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

“The Belarusian customs service is taking all the necessary measures to ensure swift travel of cargo and individuals across the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. We have increased the number of staff and workstations at the border checkpoints Novaya Rudnya, Komarin, and Veselovka,” the committee said.

On 12-13 September, Belarusian customs officers cleared 900 trucks at the Novaya Guta border checkpoint. After Ukraine had restricted movement through this border checkpoint, the number of cleared trucks shrank by 3.6 times to 247 on 14-15 September. “This had a negative impact on the performance of participants of the foreign economic activity: haulers, shippers and receivers of goods alike,” the committee noted.

According to the Ukrainian border service, the Ukrainian border checkpoint Novyye Yarilovichi (adjacent to the Belarusian border checkpoint Novaya Guta) will stop operation at 20:00 on 17 September and till the end of the month, the State Customs Committee informed.
