Belarus' central bank to continue focus on monetary targeting in 2020

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Belarus' National Bank will continue focus on monetary targeting in 2020, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank's board Sergei Kalechits told the media, BelTA has learned.

“We are not planning any extraordinary measures. Next year we will maintain the regime of monetary targeting, the policy which we are implementing now," Sergei Kalechits said when asked about the 2020 forecast documents.

The main task will be to keep inflation under 5% in annual terms. “The forecast documents state that the National Bank will continue the policy aimed at ensuring price stability. Naturally, the forecast documents envisage the measures to keep the financial stability. In terms of monetary policy the goal is to maintain the level of forex and gold reserves, to develop the financial market instruments and to strengthen the banking system,” Sergei Kalechits noted.
