Belarus' Brest Oblast plans to build 12 boiler houses on local fuels

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Brest Oblast plans to launch the construction of 12 boiler houses operating on local fuels this year, BelTA learned from Sergei Ananyev, the head of the boiler houses and energy supply office at the regional house and utilities department.

The construction of two boiler houses operating on local fuels was completed in Brest Oblast in 2019: a 12MWt in Kobrin, and a 1.4 MWt in Logishin, Pinsk District. Thanks to these facilities, the share of local fuels in the fuel and energy mix of housing and utilities enterprises in Brest Oblast increased up to 36%.

"In accordance with the Energy Saving government program, the region is set to begin the construction of 12 boiler houses running on local fuels in 2020. Some of them are expected to come on stream this year. Plans are in place to to take a loan from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the construction of ten boiler houses. The construction of two more will be financed from the regional budget," said Sergei Ananyev.

Regional budget funds will be used to equip boiler houses in Divin, Kobrin District, and in David-Gorodok, Stolin District. The loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development is projected at more than Br63 million. It will be used ti build the facilities in Brest, Gantsevichi, Lyakhovichi, Mikashevichi, Kossovo, Kobrin, Stolin and the working settlement of Rechitsa, Kamenets and the agro-town of Belovezhsky.

“The goal is to gradually replace natural gas with local fuels, to save foreign currency. In that way we can reduce the thermal energy cost by almost a quarter,” Sergei Ananyev noted.

Eleven boiler houses in Brest Oblast were converted to local fuels in 2016-2019.
