Belarus' agricultural export up by 6.4% in H1

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – In H1 2020, the export of Belarusian agricultural products and foodstuffs rose by 6.4% year-on-year, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“In January-June 2020, the export of agricultural products and foodstuffs amounted to $2.7 billion, up by 6.4% or $163.5 million. The deliveries of Belarus' major export commodities increased. The export of meat and meat products rose by 16.2% up to $486.3 million (an increase of $67.9 million). The export of milk and dairy products expanded by 6.9% up to $1,179.9 million (an increase of $75.7 million). The export of sugar went up by 15.1% to $79.1 million (an increase of $10.4 million)”, the press service informed.

In January-June Belarus exported agricultural products to 98 markets around the world. In H1 dairy products were sold in 47 countries, meat products in 16 markets and sugar in 29 countries. In H1 Belarus tapped into several new markets, including Angola, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belize, Guinea, Djibouti, India, Cyprus, Liberia, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Niger, Paraguay, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Finland, Croatia, and Sri Lanka. “We began to export powdered dairy products to Bangladesh and Niger, flax fiber to India, sugar to Guinea, Djibouti and Somalia, bread and flour confectionery to Bahrain, alcoholic beverages to Paraguay and Cyprus and malt to Angola, Liberia, and Sri Lanka,” the press service informed.

The share of CIS countries (excluding Russia) increased by 57.9% to $342.9 million in H1 2020. “The share of these states in the agricultural and food exports rose to 12.6%. Russia's share fell by 7.3% to 75.8%, or $2.1 billion,” the press service noted.

Belarus exported $315.4 million worth of agricultural products to non-CIS countries, an increase of 46.3%. Their share in Belarus' agricultural and food exports rose to 11.6%. The exports to China rose 2.7 times to total $110.9 million.
