MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarus is 48th in the ranking of countries with the largest gold reserves compiled by the World Gold Council, BelTA has learned.
Belarus' total gold holdings stand at 40.5 tonnes, which is 37.2% of the country's total gold and forex reserves. Of all the countries of the former Soviet Union, only Russia and Kazakhstan have placed higher.
The ranking is topped by the United States whose total gold holdings exceed 8,100 tonnes. The US is followed by Germany and the International Monetary Fund. The Top 10 also features Italy, France, China, Russia, Switzerland, Japan and the Netherlands.
