MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – The National Bank of Belarus has not revised the 2020 gold and foreign exchange reserves projections in the wake of the economic situation in the world, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) Pavel Kallaur said at a briefing on 13 May, BelTA has learned.
“We have not revised our projections regarding the volume of the gold and foreign exchange reserves at the end of the year. They are stipulated in the monetary policy guidelines,” Pavel Kallaur said.
Earlier, the National Bank stated that he was optimistic about the situation. Now, according to Pavel Kallaur, the assessment regarding gold and forex exchange reserves is “between optimism and the forecast parameter”.
According to the country's main monetary guidelines for 2020, the volume of international reserve assets is expected to make up at least $7.3 billion on 1 January 2021.
Belarus' gold and foreign currency reserves totaled $7,882.9 million as of 1 May 2020. In April 2020, the country's gold and foreign currency reserves went up by $96.2 million (or 1.2%) following the March decline of $1,018.4 million (11.6%).
