Azerbaijan, Belarus in talks over joint venture to produce combines

GOMEL, 23 January (BelTA) – Ganja Automobile Plant (Azerbaijan) is interested in joint production of combine harvesters with Gomselmash, Niyazi Bayramov, the head of the Ganja city administration, said as he met with Gomel Mayor Piotr Kirichenko, BelTA has learned.

“We would like to manufacture combine harvesters and other farm machines on the premises of Ganja Automobile Plant in cooperation with Gomselmash,” Niyazi Bayramov said. He noted that he came to Gomel to discuss cooperation prospects with Gomselmash.

Gomselmash grain harvesters have successfully passed field tests in Azerbaijan. Therefore the country would like to use this machinery in its agricultural sector.

During their visit to Belarus, the delegation from Azerbaijan reached arrangements with machinery producers from Minsk Oblast to manufacture buses and tractors. It was noted that joint production of combine harvesters is another promising area of cooperation.

The delegation seeks to hold a meaningful dialogue with Gomselmash top executives, tour the company's premises, and discuss cooperation prospects for the short-term perspective. According to preliminary estimates, the joint venture in Ganja could roll out about 100-150 combine harvesters.

Gomel and Ganja are believed to have many areas of common interest, including in manufacturing, culture, education and sport.

The agreement on friendship and cooperation was signed by Gomel and Ganja in November 2013. In January-November 2018 the trade between Gomel and Azerbaijan was estimated at $3.3 million. Belarus had a trade surplus of $2.5 million. Fifteen Gomel-based companies export their products to Azerbaijan. They sold $2.9 million worth of goods to this country.

Gomel Mayor Piotr Kirichenko emphasized that the two cities will be able to expand cooperation across all the areas during the annual large-scale economic forum and expo Spring in Gomel. Partners from Azerbaijan were invited to attend the event. Piotr Kirichenko noted that Gomel is open for joint projects in any field. In response, he received an invitation to visit Ganja.
