Armenia in favor of unified tariff on natural gas transit in EAEU

MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – Armenia is in favor of a unified tariff on the transit of natural gas in the Eurasian Economic Union as part of the work to create a common natural gas market. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the statement during a videoconference meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on 4 December, BelTA has learned.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, the need to enable equal and non-discriminatory conditions for competition in all branches of the economies of the EAEU member states remains a matter of fundamental importance for Armenia. “This why we believe it is necessary to pursue a coordinated energy policy, form common markets of oil, oil products, and natural gas, and to also form a common electricity market,” the official said.

In his words, the adoption of an international agreement on the EAEU's common natural gas market will be important. The document provides for common approaches to pricing and tariffs on the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union, including unified tariffs on services rendered by natural monopolies in the course of gas transportation and transit. He stressed it is necessary to find a common solution and resolve the problem of forming the common natural gas market once and for all.

Nikol Pashinyan is convinced that the move will enable conditions for raising the level of energy security, economic integration, and the competitive ability of the EAEU member states.
